What Does B S A Motorcycle Stand For

BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms Company, a British manufacturing company that was founded in 1861 to produce firearms. The company's motorcycle division was established in 1903, and the first motorcycle was released in 1910. BSA is known for producing memorable motorcycles such as the Gold Star, Hornet, and Thunderbolt. At its peak, BSA was the world's largest motorcycle producer.

BSA was part of a major British industrial combine that manufactured many other products, including bicycles, cars, buses, steel, and iron castings. The company's first bicycle components were released in 1880, and BSA quickly established a good reputation for precision engineered parts. In 1903, BSA began experimenting with adding a small 230 CC motorbike engine to one of their guns. In 1905, BSA released an engine-powered bicycle with a small Minerva engine.

BSA ceased bicycle production in 1887 to focus on producing the Lee–Metford magazine-loading rifle for the War Office. In 1908, BSA recommenced manufacturing bicycles on their own behalf, and in 1919, BSA Cycles Ltd was established to produce both bicycles and motorcycles. In 1953, BSA separated the bicycle and motorcycle business, and sold the bicycle business to Raleigh in 1957.
BSA went out of business due to its failure to appreciate the significance of the 1970s Japanese market.
